When a project is eliminated the company will reposition employees when jobs are cut. You have the opportunity to stay with the company. It may not be the job of your choice but you will still have a job here.
Cons
Being repositioned into a job you may not be happy with and is not your choice. You must stay in that position for at least one year before you can bid out and your manager must approve the fact that you would like to bid on another job in another department. If your manager does not want to let you go even if there is a job offer you will not be able to leave the department you are currently in.
