Pros
1. Space & Support To Learn & Grow - I came to work at Satcom Global with little experience in IT (less than one year) and very few Technical Skills except for a little AD administration and firewall admin. I have been given the opportunity to spread my wings and get involved, take ownership of and learn whatever i want which has lead to me earning significantly more money than when i began; as well as being a much more technically competent, confident and capable individual than when i started. I have also been sent for paid external training and certifications and had access to online self certification training for the industry during my time here, 2. Internal Promotions & Opportunities - I have been promoted twice as i progressed through the business, to more interesting and better paying jobs; after getting experience and mastering those positions. Everyone around me from the people running the team, to the people working with me in solutions and the team leaders supervising technical support are all internal promotions who once started working as a Technical Support Specialist. I have not seen a time whilst i have worked here where a position has come up as a new position or because someone left, where someone was not promoted internally and this has happened 10+ times whilst i have been here. This is something i feel really did not come through from many of the reviews left on here i read, which seem to mostly be wound up ex Technical Support employees who did not get a promotion 3. The People - From my colleages in the Technical Support team, to team members all over the world. The people are the best thing about Satcom Global. The vast majority of people like what they are doing, find the work interesting and there is a big sense of pulling together to help each other "get it done" for customers. It is a relaxed and friendly company and although communication is not great at times accross all levels, people genuinely care about you, what you are doing and want to help and share knowledge where they can. I think many of the long time servers would agree with me that it is a unique place and a unique culture which grows on you the longer you stay and the more times you are in the trenches with good people who stand strong when needed.
Cons
1. Communication - For the communications company, Ironically internal communication accross teams is very poor. it is a running joke internally, but the important thing for me is that there is an awareness of it, people individually and collectively make an effort to improve it and if you do need some information or support and ask for it, you will get it. If you don't ask for it and suffer in silence though, i can see how it might be hard for some. 2. Discipline - During my time here i have seen incompetent, lazy indivuals with sometimes very nasty / bitter outlooks on the workplace and life, work here for long periods of time. In my opinion, managment have too much tolerance and patience for this kind of thing in employees. They give people chance after chance, more training, more support and try to utilize other team members to help them. Many of these times, it has been complete wasted time and effort because those individuals are not interested at all or capable.
