Promotions frequently seem to be based on popularity rather than skill or performance. Individuals who contribute significantly—such as those on the helpdesk team, who form the backbone of the IT department—often go unrecognized, while others are promoted for simply being present early and staying late, despite limited meaningful output. Additionally, several individuals who lack strong interpersonal or leadership skills have been placed in managerial roles primarily due to tenure rather than capability.
