Pros

I have worked at several healthcare organizaitons in San Diego and must say that Sharp is the best place to work hands down. The "Sharp Experience" is part of the organizaional culture. Sharp invests in leadership with quarterly all-day training sessions. The leadership team at my entity is visionary, supportive, and appreciative of good work.

Cons

Work 50+ hours/week. Workload is extremely heavy on ongoing basis. New priority projects are started even though numerous other projects are already in process.

Pros

Great teamwork, nurses have great representation from the union (UNAC-SPNN), and competitive wages (recently improved as of 2026). Fair sick time, benefits, and attendance policy. Excellent opportunities for career advancement through in-service, entity classes, tuition reimbursement, and partnership with Guild which offers some graduate degrees that are partially or completely covered depending on the program/university.

Cons

The higher levels of management have demonstrated an unrealistic perspective about staff, misrepresenting our wages in news interviews and difficult to work with when trying to resolve issues with the union. Mixed messages about the financial state of the company resulting in layoffs while simultaneously bidding on expansion projects and building multiple new, state-of-the-art facilities.
