Pros
Kids are cute. Most customers are fine.
Cons
DO NOT DO IT. The way that the company work on a higher up level is absolutely atrocious. In the short time my friend worked there, they saw multiple people leave because a lack or respect, empathy, or care from management. You are a statistic to them. You are a tool. And you MUST be perfect 24/7 because you could do 999 things correct but the one time you do something wrong they will practically crucify you for it, no matter how small and easy the mistake. The amount of work to do is insane. My friend is no means shy of work, they’ve had jobs (and fast paced ones!) since they young, but Jesus Christ. They expect you to move around a whole store in a day, when you are alone for several hours of that day if you run the store, whilst also serving customers, and keeping an eye out across the whole store for theft (but they refuse to install CCTV, and YOU will be blamed for those thefts), and answering phone calls and questions, and keeping the whole store tidy, and and and. There is no end to it. There is no reason for it. Half of the jobs they expect staff to do could be automated by now or at least done in an easier fashion, and most of the other jobs serve no actual purpose other than to keep staff ‘’busy’. Oh, and god forbid you have a disability, because they do not give a damn. In fact, they will either use that disability against you, or just ignore and deny it actually being there so that they can great away with their shady business practices. It is all about the money, not the staff. For a company about smiles and giggles, they sure do encourage workplace bullying, gossip, and an unhealthy reporting culture that means nothing gets settled on a ground level like people, but staff instead risk losing their jobs over minor offences because management would rather lose a member of staff than treat anyone like a human being. There is an EXPECTATION that you will stay over, unpaid, to get work done. If you ask for more hours, you are shot down buy upper management and their ‘budgets’. If you leave anything to the next day (because, you know, people have lives outside of work) you will be guilt tripped and called out to other stores about it. If you do not meet targets that are sometimes unhittable BECAUSE of the upper managements choices surrounding deals Etc, it is your fault and you will be shamed in a group chat with stores around the country. This is not new- there are multiple reviews on glass door, indeed etc saying the same thing all over the country. It will not be different for you. Upper management are bullies who the regular staff are scared to report to out of fear of being shouted at, berated, and insulted. HR will not save you, and obviously, there is no union. If you are unfortunate enough to be brought up to upper management, there is nothing you can do. nothing you can say. The moment they catch a whiff of imperfection, it is game over. Everything is then your fault and you are useless to the company. They will continue to bully you until you either leave the job of your own volition or make a big enough mistake to be fired- but, the worst part is they do not even need proof to fire you over most things, someone just has to report you for it for any reason. And they sure as hell don’t pay enough to sue for unlawful dismissal, as they are not a living wage employer. My friend has not left yet, but they will soon. They are broken. I have never seen them so stressed in a job before in my life. I worry about them constantly because their mental health has gone down the gutter. they’ve tried to find other jobs. But they are so beaten down and bruised that they’ve lost all confidence in anything they could do. It hurts to watch my dear friend suffer over a company that would replace them in an instance. Just don’t do it. it is not worth it. They do not deserve to break more good people down.
