Pros
I could pretty much do whatever I wanted. There were days where I simply didn't come in and never told my boss. I'd also leave early and go to the beach- no big deal. He wasn't around much either. I had two GM's during my time and neither one of them came to work very much so I flat out took major advantage of this. I'd also go Peter Gibbons and show up in shorts and flip-flops when the weather permitted. Professionally speaking I could manage my group how I saw fit and pretty much do whatever I felt was reasonable regarding the landscaping as long as it didn't cost anything. I'd bring my own vehicle into the shop and work on it etc. It was a really great place to 'work' because no one expected anything. It was actually more like high school in many ways. I'm dead serious about this... in fact this is really only half the stuff I did in a typical month or two.
Cons
The pay was really low. However, taking in the fact of what I mention above it kind of balanced out. I think they found both of my GM's (especially the second guy) at Wringling Bros Circus... I could be wrong on that. They may have found him at the county fair. The longest I went without talking to this guy was like 6-weeks and here's the crazy part- there was no hostility! Dude just didn't care. Employee development was non-existent. The other biggest disappointment was regarding budget. Bar-none: Sodexo gets the award for stingiest no-money spending budget in the history of the United States going back to the Mayflower Compact... in fact, I believe they still have money with King George on it because they never spend any. Bottom line- if you are just starting out or ending your career and want something that will be easy, chill and possibly rewarding from a personal satisfaction standpoint then this may be the place for you. If you want to have any type of real actual career where effort is rewarded and you can grow professionally then you need to keep searching my friend.
