You have the opportunity to take the job and make it your own. It is a must for me to work in a job that I am passionate about with other like-minded people and Solar Sister is that in spades. I felt welcome the minute I joined the organization and that welcome attitude and support continues.
The US based team do work remotely which is a good fit for me and gives the organization the freedom to find the best employees. We have a lot of flexibility to create our own schedules to get our work completed. Creative thinking is encouraged. Excellent PTO and the pay is competitive. The work includes core areas: gender equality in business, supporting women and girls, access to clean energy, climate change, health and sustainability. You feel as if the work you do, the work the organization does is making an impact. I love working in the global sphere and with the teams in Africa. I am proud to be a member of this team.
Pros: You are not a cog-in-the wheel but a valued member of the team. Each member is there to support you, to answer questions, and offer guidance as needed. I love the opportunity to be able to try things. You are appreciated for your area of expertise and listened to. It is a small team so it is easy to communicate though we are remote. The organization has a meaningful mission and strong core values. The culture is connection, building relationships, and being a support.
Cons
You must be a self-starter and not need hand-holding. The work is remote so you need to create a structure for yourself, create your tasks, and stick with it on your own. I like that but it is not for everyone.
