Pros
Flexible hours, good products, loyal customer base.
Cons
Little to no upward mobility or growth opportunity, but it is disguised as a ‘flat’ structure as if that is a good thing without any credible explanation. It’s even ironic as there’s a long and clear org leveling that defines the hierarchy, base salary and bonus as well. Sonos has recently changed the review scale to be even flatter, and that clearly makes a larger number of people to be all end up in one big flat bucket systematically. That means people are stuck in their levels for such a long time with compensation equally stale regardless of their performance every cycle, every year. Lots of internal buzz words created and marketing tactics used by the leadership and HR to decorate as if changes are coming, but those gestures usually fall flat quickly with little action carried out or little effort made to follow through. It’s all about optics and a quick boost. The upper management doesn’t seem to care about making actual changes as they are so far removed from reality. Indifferent middle managers are busy caring for their own position and agenda. The internal doctrine based on a certain ideology silence people but boosts & praises only one sided voices outwardly. It’s also often used by the managers as a means to shun and alienate people with different perspectives or opinions.
