Cons

I worked at Sonova for few years as a Developer, and my experience was far from positive. Here are some key issues I encountered: 1. **Unprofessional Environment**: The workplace culture is toxic, with frequent blame games and little to no accountability from management. Constructive feedback is often met with defensiveness or outright hostility, making it difficult to foster a collaborative environment. 2. **Poor Management**: The management team is disorganized and often indecisive, leading to constant project delays and last-minute changes. There is a lack of clear direction and vision, which trickles down to create confusion and frustration among the engineering teams. 3. **Lack of Career Growth**: Despite promises of career development, there are very few opportunities for advancement or professional growth. Promotions and raises are rare and seem to be based more on favoritism than merit. 4. **Overworked and Underappreciated**: The workload is consistently overwhelming, with unrealistic deadlines and expectations. Despite the hard work put in by the engineering team, appreciation and recognition are minimal, the manager take the credit no you. 5. **Inadequate Resources**: The company is reluctant to invest in necessary tools and technologies, making it challenging to deliver high-quality work. This not only hampers productivity but also limits the ability to stay updated with industry standards. In summary, Sonova is not a conducive place for growth or professional satisfaction. The combination of a toxic work environment, poor management, and lack of support makes it difficult to recommend this company to any serious software engineer looking for a stable and rewarding career, If you want to waste your time go there.

Pros

At a global level, the company has a strong mission and a well‑articulated set of values. What I observed, though, is that the translation of those values into day‑to‑day leadership behaviors varied significantly by region. In Switzerland, leadership seemed more aligned with the long‑term vision — communication was clearer, expectations were consistent, and decisions reflected the stated values. In North America, the operational reality didn’t always match the mission on paper. Some of the leadership behaviors, priorities, and communication patterns were more reactive and short‑term, which created a gap between the company’s stated culture and the lived experience.

Cons

In the North American organization, there was a noticeable absence of cohesive leadership. Department leaders often operated in silos and, at times, undermined one another rather than aligning around shared goals. Challenges were frequently attributed to other teams instead of being addressed collaboratively, which made it difficult to build momentum or drive solutions. Information flow was inconsistent as well — critical details were sometimes withheld until escalated publicly, and the lack of transparency created unnecessary friction. As a result, individuals who attempted to step in, create clarity, or demonstrate leadership were not always supported, which ultimately discouraged proactive problem‑solving. The experience highlighted the importance of leadership teams that model collaboration, share information openly, and create an environment where people feel empowered to contribute.
