Pros

Nice fellow employees when they stayed.

Cons

My recruiter told me this can be a difficult place to work. That should have been my first sign. The workload was extremely heavy, the moral of my fellow employees was horrible. Most of the people I worked with were constantly looking for another job and it seemed like people were constantly leaving and not happy. At first I did not understand but it didn’t take long. My work load doubled and I didn’t get any help and management did not care. The higher ups didn’t seem to care and it was just a revolving door of people. I could not take it anymore.

Thank you for your review. We very much recognized the turnover we had a few years back, and since then have taken proactive measures restructure the office to enhance the employee's ability to excel within SIU. Creating more opportunities and a clearer path for advancement/growth. We have also made vast improvements in our technology solely focusing on workflow efficiencies; as well as, utilizing outside resources to address heavy workflows within different departments. I am sorry that you felt like the Mgt did not care or recognize the heavy workload you had. We truly do care and were aware of the workloads, but the solutions took time. We are all in this together, and we always try to work as a team to improve upon everything we do here at SIU!

Pros

If you’re good with time management and you don’t need a supervisor breathing down your neck to stay motivated than this is the place for you! Personal accountability is pretty big. Lots of on the job training. Southern Insurance Underwriters isn’t for everyone but can make a rewarding career for those who make the cut.

Cons

Communication could be better but it’s always getting better.

Pros

Somewhat of a work/life balance

Cons

The president is very greedy and pay is low compared to other Underwriting jobs. Your managers will be in meetings or work trips most all of the time. In theory that part seems cool but then the second business slows down You are the problem. Unless you are part of the inner circle good luck making a decent wage or moving up here. They are very creepy towards the females. Most people there are 50+ in age yet they like to hire young attractive women fresh out of college. The president frequently has younger girls in the work place or just in general babysit his kids. This kind of toxicity is rampant among managers and long time veterans of the company. Think twice before joining SIU
