Pros

Co-workers were all very intelligent people. Pay was fairly good for the market, but the benefits were lacking. We only got 401k at the start of 2021, and only 2 months later, 1/3rd of the company was laid off.

Cons

Long days that are often 10+ hours. The company has no clear direction, the whole engineering department would b-line at the direction of C-level to the next thing they believe will make them money. This would fracture projects and development cycles and create a chaotic work environment. You are expected to just know, and in order to test you, you are put on the spot during zoom meetings that will have 20+ people. If you don't know, you will be lambasted in front of co-workers. The pace at which work is expected to be completed while also attending 4+ hours of daily meetings.

Pros

Brilliant Team - you will learn from and be pushed by this team: CEO already has a successful exit, VP of engineering used to report to Elon Musk at SpaceX, engineers hold patents and one even wrote the book on Elixir Solving Big Problems - if you’ve had to say “what was that again” on a zoom call in the last year you already understand that today’s internet can be painful, what you may not be as familiar with is that it can be 5x worse in some parts of the globe, Subspace is looking to solve real time performance everywhere Wide Scope - because the problem we are trying to solve is so big, there is more work to go around than people to do it, your role is as big as you want to make it

Cons

Sink or Swim - while there is opportunity to have a wide scope, there isn’t a ton of hand holding or HR type programs in place to help you thrive in your role Near Term Clarity - while it’s clear where we want to be in the next few years, it can feel thrash-y if you aren’t used to an early stage startup environment
