Pros
Sunglass hut is a terrific job for students or anybody else that wants to work part time. They have the ability to work around a work/school schedule very easily. Their charity, one sight, is a wonderful organization also. 401K & insurance are competitive with other retailers. There is also a certificate for free glasses after each year of employment for all associates. Being there for so long I have built many long term relationships with my customers as this company really does focus strongly on customer service. It is still fun helping customers find sunglasses.
Cons
a full time manager in a smaller volume store, of which 75% of their stores are, should plan on standing on their feet for 6-11 hours straight without even a minute off of them. Sitting is not allowed and you will be in a single coverage environment so you do not get breaks. I have always wondered if this was even legal and I have seen some long time managers go through knee and ankle surgeries. Controlling external theft is a joke. Some stores have cameras, some do not. You do not get a camera unless you are a high shrink store and by the time you are a high shrink store you would have lost your job for high shrink. All glasses are out in the open for customers to easily access. Even $500.+ glasses. It gets very stressful controlling shrink when you have multiple customers in single coverage, which is most of the time. Regional managers give "stretch goals". Mine currently is running two locations. This came with no increase in pay and double the responsibility. I have had other stretch goals throughout my years but none quite so payroll effective for our company, but many requiring a bit of work off the clock. Company continues to still expand, which is good in one hand but they are expanding in markets with existing stores already. If you are in that market, plan on struggling to hit your sales plan for a year until you cycle it. As there is a commission base program in place it affects your income and all associates in that market area also.
