Pros
The payment plan is very generous. Traders are given a base salary (this is not a draw against earnings) + a percentage of all profits from deals sold. When traders reach a certain sales goal, they are promoted and receive a larger profit base. If you have a hustle mentality, the sky is truly the limit. The hours may not be for everybody, but I consider it a perk. Start early at 6 am and leave by 3:30 pm (prior to any afternoon traffic). Work half days on Fridays (leave at 12 pm). The office has a tight-knit culture. Traders communicate with each other and what they are working on, and actively help each other fill orders (cross-trading). Leverage each others market knowledge and supplier base to help make deals come together. Management wants to see their salespeople succeed, and invests in them with training and mentoring. Fun, casual work environment. No suits and ties. Opportunities to meet both customers and suppliers throughout North America.
Cons
Stress. If you cannot manage stress then this is not the job for you. If you are not self-directed, you may struggle to build a book of business. Any commodity or item that can be sold is on the table, and management/the salesforce are always evaluating new product lines and opportunities. You are given a phone and the training to succeed, but you need to be able to conceptualize your goals, your market, and what you can bring to the table to make your customers/prospects jobs easier.
