Pros

Good people and teams on the ground level. Residents, although challenging at times, can be amazing and work can be fulfilling. A lot of caring and hard working staff.

Cons

Benefits are poor (no maternity pay, no pension, no sick pay scheme, overtime hours reduced, annual leave is only 20 days). Often working in difficult conditions where it is challenging to provide the right level of care for each resident. Even when the motivation is there, staffing issues make this hard. Very poor staff retention. Very poor support for staff coming from abroad with not-fluent English. MDT are trying but not well staffed - often long waiting times for resident to be seen or reviewed. Psychology takes a long time and communication supports. No social worker in post. A lot of changes in upper management in recent years which has not had much affect on services. Micromanagement seems to be main management style and good staff often made to feel they are bad at their job. There is an overwhelming amount of online training to do before starting that is difficult to remember when you are actually at work.
