Unique Experience - House Bill Clerk Tennessee General Assembly Employee Review

Pros

Very interesting environment and impact, being able to witness the "news" in person, learning and understanding the workings of state government/legislation/legislature, ability to help constituents/coworkers, strong opportunities for making professional connections, and very nice workplace. Flexible schedule outside of session with state holidays and easy ability to take off during holiday season due to being out of legislative session.

Cons

Can be long hours during legislative session, but by no means undoable or unrealistic. Pay is not amazing but the opportunities afforded by the position are valuable and worth the time investment.

Pros

The job is part time until near the end of the legislative session when things get busy. The work is repetitive, but not awful, and some of it is interesting. Colleagues are intelligent and the work environment is relaxed. It is an excellent gig for a well-educated retired person or an English major who has daytime hours free. You must know English grammar and be an excellent speller.

Cons

It is temporary work, only for when the legislature is in session, so the fun comes to an end by mid-May and does not resume until the following February.
