Difficult Expectations, and Very Closed to New People - Anonymous employee Terathink Employee Review

Closed knit, family like culture. Senior management was very approachable and was true to their open door policy. They tried their best to have quarterly activities to bring all of the offsite people together. The HR team also tried their best to build a good culture and keep retention low by sending out regular surveys concerning employee satisfaction. Benefits were overall good for a mid size company especially with health insurance. If you were a good performer, you got a raise and bonus every year. They weren’t always good percentage increases because of their company scale but they did what they could to try to keep you. At one time they asked employees if they wanted to donate their PTO days for those on the bench who had to go on without pay during the extended government shutdown (projects that couldn’t bill at all) but then senior management gave those PTO days back when we recovered.

They were very limited with maternity leave. The days provided could’ve been more generous. Maybe it was because it’s a mid size and also a lot of senior leadership were men in technology. It was hard to change projects because they didn’t have that many and a lot of the projects they subcontracted to another firm so they couldn’t call the shots. When CGI acquired TeraThink, we lost one of our major projects because it was a small business set aside. All of us had to find new projects with CGI while nervously sitting on the bench. The merger with CGI (they’re doing this one project at a time and I believe there are still projects 2 years since the initial merger that are still under TeraThink) has created a company that is a totally different company. I loathed the culture at CGI and left a few months later. I didn’t realize how good of a company TeraThink was until CGI took over and ruined everything. Don’t bother applying at CGI unless you want to work for a controlling, old school men culture. We even had our PTO days reduced with the merger and they had to negotiate the reduction for those who’ve been there a long time (CGI wanted to give us 15 days when we had 25 days under TeraThink). Goodbye TeraThink… it was good while it lasted.

Pay was okay for just starting out.

Promotions and pay increases were hard to come by.
