Pros

- Weekend shifts, and backshits during a weekday can work around your college/university timetable. My managers showed support to me allowing me to drop and change shifts to work around my timetables as they changed each term. - The skills you get are transferable: communication, team work, planning and organising, working as an individual, time management, handling multiple tasks and deadlines. - Colleagues are able to take on extra responsibility by becoming team leaders; furthermore, if your desired career path is in retail management, Tesco offer graduate programmes, as well as an internal 'options' programme for colleagues to train and transition to management positions. - Plenty of overtime available to boost your income over the Xmas and summer periods when you are off.

Cons

- There is still the chance of a clash of interests. If overtime is not voluntarily picked up then management may randomly select (as per availability) colleagues to work the overtime to meet business needs. - Late finishes (10pm to 12am) may not be ideal if you are up early the next day for classes. - Work/life balance will be impacted, and you will look forward to (perhaps rely on) using your annual leave to catch up with friends and let off steam.
