Platinum Benefits but Uncomfortable Culture - Anonymous The Commonwealth Fund Employee Review

Pros

Platinum benefits - 25 or 30 days of PTO annually, summer Fridays (get out at 1:00 p.m. on Fridays from Memorial Day through Labor Day), lunch provided daily at no cost to employees, health insurance options requiring no employee contribution (and full coverage for dependents), and retirement contributions starting at 11.125% of salary (up to 20%, based on age). With it being an endowed foundation, there was also a sense of job security.

Cons

The culture of the organization could really improve as far as internal communications, training supervisors how to actually manage their staff (instead of relying solely on their content expertise), and actually articulating shared work values. Some staff were extremely hostile or rude, and there was never a sense that you could do anything to change that.

Pros

Excellent benefits, especially health insurance and retirement contributions.

Cons

Everything else. Honestly, if it wasn't for the incredible benefits I think the turnover rate (for all but executive levels) would be even higher. The management is horrendous- poorly trained, arrogant, micromanaging and at times verbally abusive. Non-management staff is viewed as expendable and management is protected at all costs.
