Pros

I worked for this organization from 2015-2016 as a Corps member and endured workplace harassment daily at my service site. I was discriminated against, ridiculed, yelled at, called names, prevented from completing intervention work with the children at my service site and much more. This abuse went on for the duration of my service year. I went up the Literacy Lab chain of command fairly early (as they have built in many supports). However, not a single Literacy Lab supervisor, coach, mentor, trainer, etc disrupted this workplace abuse in any meaningful way. Instead, they insisted that I bend, twist and contort myself to accommodate the abuser (teaching assistant) at my site. They fail to protect, support and validate their Corps members.

Cons

You won't get paid for your first month of service (August) and no one will let you know ahead of time. You will learn this on your first day of orientation (in August) and yes you will already be deeply financially invested in this program and financially unprepared for this lack of a paycheck. There was a huge and fairly unnecessary chain of command what I went through when I was abused and harassed at my service site.
