I worked there for many years and in different departments. Management does not value employees. They're stuck in a 1970s-80s mentality and think the paper is the only game in town, so employees should be grateful just to work there. There's plenty of emphasis put on pointing out mistakes and belittling people, but very little on praising folks for a job well done. They don't value new ideas or different points of view. Newsroom higher-ups have a stuck-up attitude, sense of entitlement and are resistant to change. Advertising rates are out of touch with reality, they're always trying " the next big thing" instead of focusing on retaining readers (and existing ad clients); and there's constant infighting among departments and managers. New products and changes to existing products are rolled out haphazardly, without time for the staff to prepare and without good, clear thinking about what could go wrong.
