Pros
The family feel of the company really resonates and the people make it a great place to be. Everyone really pulls together and the tough times are worked through with a real sense of togetherness. Works extremely well with suppliers and networks and is extra-ordinarily forward-thinking. The sense of entrepreneurialism really resonates around the business. People are given license to think for themselves. Ideas and suggestions for improvement are actively encouraged. At entry level there's a real opportunity for the quality employees to be promoted and move around the business, with limits.
Cons
I think the willingness to go the extra mile is taken advantage of. The people make sacrifices daily to deliver the company requirements. There's a real expectation to be available at all times. Pay can feel begrudging. Working at Timico for several years there was no annual formal review. For the good will and effort and real passion that all of its people have, the annual parties/boat trips don't really make up for the sacrifice. It's as though there is a negativity and disappointment attached to pay rise requests, which is unfortunate. When recruiting for more senior positions, there's a preference to go external. Would be great to have seen more internal backing and for the glass ceiling to have been removed for some of the more outstanding people.
