Pros
Working with the kids was definitely super fun. The camp has a really good mission and I do think this is an awesome way to keep kids entertained and active over the summer. The hourly pay was really good and during the camp hours, I definitely felt fairly compensated for my labor. Supervision was really good (for the most part, and this depends strongly on who you have as an immediate supervisor), and when there were issues with parents I definitely felt like the company had our backs.
Cons
The biggest issue I had with this job was the sheer amount of extracurricular obligations that camp counselors had. I was fortunate enough to be working at a site near where I lived, but counselors were entirely responsible for grocery shopping, printing instructional materials, and setting up classrooms. Having to store literally hundreds of dollars of groceries in my personal fridge was definitely not ideal. Taking multiple out of work hours a week to shop wasn't great either, particularly when the compensation policy far underestimated how long this actually took. I do not feel like they were super transparent about these expectations until our orientation, after we had accepted our jobs.
