Pros
+ Wear as many hats as you like. My experience at Total Party Planner allows me to touch on most of the things I love doing. Hardware builds? Check! Programming? Check! Computer networking? Check! Systems administration? Check! Database administration? Check! Etc... This allows for development of a huge array of hands-on skills, whereas more monolithic jobs require much bureaucracy to accomplish any task outside-of-scope.
+ Team collaboration. With a group of such talented problem solvers, it is a joy to discuss challenges, help one-another, and work toward solving the challenges.
+ A sense of belonging. I consider the people at TPP true friends. I also worked very closely with many great customers, listening to their honest and friendly feedback!
+ Post employment. In any fast-paced SaaS work environment, there is often much more to do, than can be done. This can foster opportunities to consult and help the team forevermore, given that the need is there and spare time can be dedicated.
Cons
- Swinging priorities. These are often necessary/frequent/impossible to avoid. Constantly making context-switches is something computers do very well. Humans, unfortunately, may vary. Today, many people perceive that multi-tasking is a myth.
