Pros
Great opportunity to make good, even great money. Young, fun work environment. Company events, managers who have been in your shoes and understand the struggles of being a broker. Great facilities.
Cons
Long hours. Not always seeing your hard work pay off. You are much more likely to be successful in this job if you put in the work, however, it does not guarantee success. When cold calling and trying to generate business, a degree of "luck" is involved. You need to catch the right people at the right time. Also, a number of people within the company are fortunate enough to inherit business from brokers they worked under as assistants or when brokers leave the company or take new positions. while others are never handed anything and are forced to earn everything. It is extremely challenging to find customers willing to give you consistent business at rates that make it possible for you to make money. Not much security in the job, the fear of losing your biggest customer tomorrow is always there and can happen at anytime. You have to rely on carriers to keep your customers happy. You are always at the mercy of truck drivers and customers, which is extremely stressful.
