Pros

- 7.5 hour workday. - Still use some Imperial Oil systems and thought patterns in Alberta. - Staff are hard-working.

Cons

- Sexist and ageist management. - Most managers are secondees from Owners; Shell, Imperial and Suncor. - Pay is not competitive with Industry. - No Training or support. - Outdated systems and ancient IT network. Phones and Internet go down repeatedly. - Keep hiring managers and no support staff to do the work. Increasing workloads and stress. - Management lies to Regulators, employees and public regularly. - No accountability at any level. - Staff aren't treated well, therefore don't really care about the job. Zero respect from Managers. - Staff consists of almost retires or people who just need a job for a couple of years. Management expects this. - Toxic work environment. - Constant micromanagement from mangers. - Outdated policies and guideline. - Management does not foster open communication or collaboration - "Do as I say, not as I do" mentality. - HR ignorant to staffing issues.

Pros

Compared to other organizations I have worked for there is not much pros for this small company.

Cons

Working at Trans Northern Pipeline Inc. was a very disappointing experience. In my opinion, the company suffers from poor leadership, weak financial management, and a lack of effective technical direction. Engineering work appears to rely heavily on outside contractors, which raises concerns about internal capability, hiring decisions, and long-term knowledge retention. The engineering department also seemed disconnected from how a strong technical organization should operate, with limited practical understanding of project execution and engineering management. Other departments had similar issues, but damage prevention was especially concerning. From my perspective, that group lacked effective leadership, accountability, and clear direction. Overall, I would not recommend this company to professionals who are looking for career growth, strong mentorship, or a well-managed engineering environment.
