Pros
- Friendly team with good social connections
- Culture of business travel only when necessary, supporting flexible working
- Potential for range of experience with big name clients
- Feel supported to pursue training and to get what I want from the role
- Punches above their weight competing with big 4 for work
- Accepted reduced profits to avoid redundancies during a quieter period, which retained good talent until busier period arrived
- I think they genuinely believe in their corporate values and try to encourage them - rare amongst places I've worked.
- Improving focus on core offerings as company gets bigger rather than pursuing too many products
Cons
Usual consulting challenges
- Quite frequent that people overwork (although I didn't feel overtly pressured to, it was very common so felt like the expectation at times)
- Time closely managed via timesheets - must justify time, which often means seeking out business development work to fill unbilled hours.
Growing company challenges
- Knowledge management isn't very strong at the moment and scrambling through past work for templates is quite common
- As offshoring becoming more frequent, there are some challenges with supporting offshore colleagues to succeed
