Pros

- Work life balance, flex-time and supportive of those with other commitments i.e. children or caring. - Annual leave - 30 days plus bank holidays and privilege days - Amazing pension - The science that goes on behind the scenes

Cons

- Very hierarchal (even in this century) - Bad leadership - No opportunities to progress within pay band, only by promotion. This can mean people being promoted before they are ready to be. - No comparison in grades. The roles and responsibilities of an individual in a band, may not be the same of another individual also in the same band. - Salary is awful compared to private sector and some other public sector departments - Meant to be 'one' organisation, but very much still separated by Council or institute. Needs good leadership to break this barrier but there is a lack of it. - Relationship with UK SBS (shared service provider) is terrible.
