Pros

- Compelling and important cause - Strong brand and a well-resource organization allowing for meaningful and interesting wide range of work - Good entitlement package for staff - The people in general are passionate, committed and nice - Starting to become less tolerant of abuse of authority and maltreatment of staff

Cons

- It is certainly not for everyone. It is highly bureaucratic and a lot of time will be spent on processes - Expect to spend a lot and a lot of time on reporting, and systems, and meetings - Depending on leadership, the experience might vary greatly even within the same office as international staff rotate - Maintaining and honoring work life balance is extremely hard - It's an ambitious organization - in a good way- but also is highly demanding of its employees [a lot of right things will be said about staff wellbeing but in reality, you will be expected to do quite the impossible]

Pros

Working at the UN was an amazing experience, being able to take part in such a significant mission was great.

Cons

As I was not a full-time volunteer and was also responsible for fundraising in my territory, I felt that I did not receive the same treatment as the other volunteers. It was a challenging role and experience, and at times it felt like my well-being was not fully considered.
