Pros

The Navy trained me to do my job well and there is plenty of mentoring along the way. Proficiency and skill building culture, as well as a unique Navy culture, build a lot of pride and sense of belonging. Families are considered part of the bargain and they are well taken care of.

Cons

The Navy will suck the life out of you. Hard work is the best reward. In order to advance or promote, a person really has to be "extremely" competetive...the ultimate company man. Also, the leadership espouses equal opportunity and diversity, but it is mighty male and white in the senior ranks.

Pros

Skill opportunities, civilian credential opportunities

Cons

every command is politically motivated. Promotions are assigned based on who is at a command for longer instead of purely merit. Overall, disappointed that the military is not a mertiocracy and more of a, covering your butt, bueracracy
