Pros
A great opportunity to travel and see the world, meet life-long friends and have access to technical training and personal development.
Cons
The Navy's viewpoint on "equality" is every person regardless of capability is equal. There is a huge push to reach racial quotas in technical fields without considering educational backgrounds. We have seen ASVAB requirements drop for Advanced Technical Fields from 90 to 75 then to 50 then to 'need a waiver.' This means the Navy has people working in Intelligence and IT that can not understand what they are reading in tech manuals and can not mentally understand the implications of written policy. The Navy is falling apart, and this is very obvious to anyone driving through a base or shipyard. Although funding is at all time highs, current leadership has no idea how to sustain the infrastructure it is responsible for. Grass is overgrown, buildings are falling apart, parking lots are returning to gravel.
