Pros

Job security is almost guaranteed and you *MIGHT* live in A foreign country. You may make a friend or two. And sometimes you get a small discount at stores. I recommend joining the service if you have absolutely nothing. No home, No friends, no family, no boyfriend/girlfriend, no pets, no will to live, no money, no hopes, no dreams, no life at all. If you’re at the bottom of your barrel with nothing left and absolutely no chance of reestablishing yourself, the military will give you three square meals a day and a bed to sleep in. It will be an opportunity to start a new beginning. You will HATE your life but at least you’re not homeless.

Cons

You will hate every waking moment of your life. The days start early and the nights end late. You get paid little to nothing and are treated horribly by 90 percent or more of your co-workers. Extremely toxic environment literally and metaphorically. If you’re trying to sign up to move out of mom and dad’s house DO NOT DO IT. There are a billion other things you could try and the military should only ever be used as a last resort. I implore you to message any people you can find that have been in under a year or two for their honest opinion. Find people in Great Lakes IL (Chicago) San Diego CA, Little Creek Virginia, ect. Take a year to really decide on this and never listen to any recruiter because they’re all crooked. Do as much research as humanly possible. Once you’re in you’re stuck. Its nearly impossible to escape other than waiting out the 4 or 6 year contract.

Pros

It is what you make out of it. You'll have good days and bad days. It's all dependent on your leadership. That can make or break the command. Medical is free, but can take a while to get seen. You'll meet a lot of new people and could travel around the world depending on your duty station. Education benefits and training.

Cons

Medical can take a while to get seen, unless it's an emergency. If you're single, the pay isn't that great, but you don't have to much to worry about for bills if you live on base. If you're on sea duty billet, your work life balance will be terrible.
