Pros

Some great people to work with. Depending on the team, there's little to no micromanaging.

Cons

The organization is incredibly unorganized, yet upper management appears oblivious to this major issue. There is a severe lack of cohesion between teams and processes, with individuals often following their own methods, leading to frequent confusion. People are leading departments or teams without a clear understanding of their roles, exacerbating the daily disarray. Most departments lack a clear career progression path, and annual raises are minimal. Numerous employees from various departments have voiced concerns, noting that most raises in 2023 failed to keep up with the high inflation rate. Additionally, significant pay disparities between departments have been highlighted repeatedly, yet no action has been taken. Despite financial struggles evidenced by recent layoffs, the decision was made to invest heavily in office space, abandoning the company's original remote-first approach. There is no reason to be in office and seems to only be required so those that have minimal social life outside of work can have some semblance of social normality through forced interactions throughout the day. Clients are still handled via Zoom, making the office environment disruptive and impractical for frequent client calls. Working from home would alleviate these problems, but instead, we are compelled to stick to outdated ideas about what defines a "grown-up" company.

Pros

The interview process was very smooth. Everyone I met with was transparent and informative. The team is incredibly smart, hardworking, and thoughtful. Supportive colleagues have made it easy to contribute from day one. There is great energy in the office that makes me excited about coming to work every day.

Cons

Not for everyone. Best suited for people who are comfortable with extreme ownership.

Pros

Unit has a genuinely great in-person culture. Some teams come in 5 days a week by choice, which honestly says a lot. The office is also in a great spot (Tribeca), and it’s a place you actually want to spend time. I’ve never felt more excited to show up to work every day. The energy is high, people move fast, and it feels like you’re surrounded by people who are really good at what they do. The talent here is the real deal... smartest group of people I’ve worked with, but without the ego. People are sharp and direct, but also humble and collaborative. Also, Unit is one of the more diverse companies I’ve worked at, and it’s not just surface-level. You see it across teams and leadership, and it actually shows up in how people work together.

Cons

The company is split across two offices, so depending on where you sit, you can feel a little removed from product/engineering. It’s not a huge issue, but you definitely get less exposure vs. being in one office together.
