Pros

There are a lot of positive reviews for Updater because the company tied severance packages to a gag order. No one that leaves can post anything. In addition, one of their acquired companies no longer even has a Glassdoor page. It was rated in the low 2s so they took it down instead of merging the two together in order to maintain image. Transparency is a strong suit of theirs. - Communication is great. You will have more personal slack channels related to pizza, dogs, and cats than you have actual work related channels dedicated to getting work done.

Cons

- In my opinion, there is a leadership problem at this company that trickles down. The CEO of Updater suffers from an acute case of Founderitis and has the empathy of a rock. There is a lot of ruling through fear instead of respect. - You have unlimited PTO but there is so much work to do that you will be expected to be responsive even if you are out of office. If you do enforce these boundaries you will be labeled as "not a team player." - Be prepared for a lot of "This is the way we have always done it" type of attitudes.

Thank you for your effort and dedication to Updater, and for your candid feedback. It’s my responsibility to ensure every teammate has a positive experience, so I’m disappointed to hear that isn’t the case for you – let’s fix it. I realize joining a new company through an acquisition is particularly challenging, especially during a national crisis while we transition to working from our homes, and I haven’t yet met a lot of our new employees in person. You have my Slack and you know my email address – please reach out, as I’d love to have a candid conversation. We’ve never prevented or discouraged our employees from sharing their experiences on Glassdoor. As disappointed as I am reading this review, I’m thankful you shared it and I hope this gives us an opportunity to discuss. As at any growing company, we expect everyone to make a tremendous impact on our goals. Our flexible PTO policy is designed with trust and appreciation of our team – trust that each employee will balance their responsibilities and take the time off they need to rest and recharge. Additionally, the “this is the way we’ve always done it” mindset you mention isn’t something I see or hear at Updater – my job is to empower you to grow this business, and if something is standing in your way, please let me know. Again, I genuinely want to turn your experience around: you have my email address. David
