Pros

- Decent response to Covid - Weekly stretching - Xmas parties - Summer picnic

Cons

- CEO - Most of senior management - No board of advisors - Way too many responsibilities for each person - No accountability / no praise - Professional Services is treated poorly / Engineering is treated poorly Want to work somewhere your ideas will be heard but not acted on? Want to work long hours and weekends? Want to work somewhere where you are taking on responsibilities for 2-3 different functions / people? Want to be over worked and get paid the industry average or less? Well then, work here. With top talent leaving left and right (attrition rate ~ 30% during Covid), Upstream Works isn't a place you want on your LinkedIn profile. Most people will have more responsibilities than they can handle, being overworked by working evening and weekends. The software is riddled with bugs and infrastructure issues with little to no plan to stop and fix this. Professional Services is dying because of this, Engineering is dying because of this. There are amazing people within the trenches, but they all deserve a better place to work.

Pros

The company offers decent technical exposure and stable work. Some teams have talented developers who are helpful and collaborative.

Cons

Team composition and management practices could be more inclusive. In certain departments, hiring and promotion decisions seem to favor people from the same cultural background as the manager, which affects diversity and team morale. Non-favored employees may feel excluded from important discussions or growth opportunities. There’s a noticeable lack of transparency in how roles and responsibilities are distributed, and feedback often seems biased rather than performance-based. Also the company gives layoffs quite frequently

Pros

- The company has a genuinely welcoming culture. - You’re trusted to do your job, and you can count on your colleagues and leadership for support when needed. - There’s a strong sense of teamwork, which makes it easy to collaborate and not feel isolated—even while working remotely. - Work-from-home flexibility supports a healthy work-life balance. - Even with remote work, the company puts effort into staying connected, like monthly town halls at the office with a pizza lunch, summer picnic, Blue Jays game, and a great winter gathering at Blue Mountain.

Cons

- No RRSP matching, it would be great if this could be added. Otherwise, the benefits package as a whole is great.
