Pros
Great analytics and proprietary targeting programs. good portfolio of products. Benefits and PTO pretty good if you've been there a while. Lots of good talented people working there.
Cons
The targeting programs are great however they are geared to small local accounts- fast food, local home improvement, furniture, etc. You have a territory and you can't stray out of it if you get lucky and come across a decent prospect that's outside it which is rare. The majority of the"meatier" business is already called for b/w the tenured reps and national accounts so you're stuck with what's left over which you spend your life cold calling. Agencies are very familiar with Valassis and have little interest in shared mail anymore. Company has been struggling with digital for quite a while now and has never really got a foothold in it. Now every company out there has digital so competition is fierce. Management has been pressuring to sell digital with every client. Reps are micro managed to astounding levels!. Forecasts, projections, meetings, conference calls, sales force.com, reviews. You're treated like an entry level rep. Back in the Advo days it wasn't a bad company to work for. Then Valassis (the evil empire) took over and everything changed. Now Harland Clarke owns it; no one wants to get up in the morning and go to work. The passion is GONE and there are layoffs and talented people leaving everywhere. Upper management is clueless. Look at all the sales reviews here. They're all -almost identical to this one.Does that tell you something??
