Years of poor management and a lack of investment has led to a slowly dying, antiquated product line. The software hasn't really changed much since it was first developed in the early 2000's. When the company attempted to update its flagship platform, Visual MODFLOW, with a modern refresh, it failed miserably because it did not listen to its customers and it did not invest accordingly at the time. To make matters worse, a US venture capital parent company (Nova Metrix) is closely involved with the day-to-day operations of the company. Note that the parent company does not have the expertise or passion to lead its employees and develop compelling products. They are entirely focused on short-term P/L and protecting the company from a legal standpoint. At the end of the day, the morale at the office is dire and depressing. There is no passion or excitement for the products anymore. The leadership team is so disconnected from the customers and the groundwater community, that a rebound seems very unlikely. Needless to say, there isn't much opportunity here for career growth. In fact, it's likely that it will be a determinant to your career, as you will miss out on the experience and knowledge gained in a healthy, modern day tech company, one that is passionate about it's products. There are so many more exciting, better managed technology companies in Kitchener-Waterloo that are worth your time.

Staff, people tend to bond together in times of darkness. The coffee and tea selection is nice. The burgers are always cooked perfectly at the staff BBQs.

Ownership treats the Executives like crap and guess what flows downhill on to you!This happen as often as groundwater recharges aquifers. Also, that post from Mar 5 2020 is total fake. No one from there has frame of mind. Those stories were from the “good old days” because that place keeps getting worse. If your career choices include being under valued and not being treated like a human being, you’ve found the right place.
