Pros

The co-workers are top-notch. Upper Management/the owners know how to hire great people (they just don’t know how to keep them).

Cons

- Turnover is very high (over 100 people in 7 years for a 30-person company… That’s nearly 50% per year) - Feedback to management is not valued - No vacation [was] offered in the 1st year - Management does not know how to create a viable business plan, plan ahead and stick to that plan - Management does not know how to prioritize - Management does not keep promises - Managements “Open-Door” policy depends on their mood that day

WestStar does not and have never asked staff to post positive reviews about our company on this or any other website. This entire posting is vitriolic and misleading. To set the record straight: The quote, "No vacation [was] offered in the 1st year," is factually incorrect. Vacation time begins accruing during the first day of employment and most first year employees take vacation time during their first year with us. WestStar's vacation policy has not changed since 2008. The quote, " Management does not know how to create a viable business plan, plan ahead and stick to that plan," is obviously incorrect. WestStar has experienced consistent growth for over 20 years. The "turnover rate" numbers quoted by this individual are factually incorrect. WestStar's "turnover" rate is lower that the largest broadcasting and media based companies. A number of our employees have been with WestStar for more than five years. We especially draw attention to the above quote: "Since you haven’t been able to keep a steady staff, you have recently opted to have an I.T. employee write articles for Kim’s newsletters. I feel for the person that has to do this because when they fail, your “go-to” behavior has been to fire them." It is WestStar's policy to promote from within and provide new employment opportunities to current employees. The former I. T. employee who is referenced in this misinformed and false post, actually applied to be promoted and transferred from our I. T. staff to WestStar's writing/editorial staff. More clearly stated, the employee asked for and received a permanent promotion and a raise in pay and is no longer with WestStar's I. T. department. Therefore, the statements that this individual has made regarding the employee and WestStar are false and shameful. Finally, the comments posted by this individual regarding the broadcasting of asking "a pastor or priests" for advice on "keeping a staff" are not only false but quite frankly, they are nothing less than bizarre. While WestStar respects opinions, we find this posting to be especially egregious, false and misleading. We do not condone the publishing of factually false and misleading information.

Pros

WestStar is a company that goes above and beyond for its employees. It’s a place that you can expect to work hard for you, if you work hard for them! I absolutely loved my time with WestStar and would highly recommend them. The salary & benefits are great. They also encourage a positive work environment, while offering opportunities to build your skill set to be the best that you can be.

Cons

What can I say? They’re amazing so there’s no need for this section.

Pros

Nothing positive. It will take a long time to get over the trauma caused here.

Cons

• Extremely toxic and hostile workplace • Yelling, raised voices, and hostile communication from leadership • Public reprimands and disproportionate reactions to routine mistakes • No formal onboarding, training, or documented processes • Expectations change constantly and are rarely communicated • Employees are expected to anticipate needs and rules that are never stated • Leadership mistakes are redirected onto staff rather than owned • Disorganized workflows with no clear approval paths • Culture of fear, not collaboration or trust • High levels of stress, burnout, and anxiety are normalized This is an emotionally unsafe workplace. Leadership relies on criticism, escalation, and intimidation instead of clear direction or coaching. Employees are frequently put in impossible situations. You are expected to deliver high-level work with little guidance, no clear priorities, and inconsistent feedback, then reprimanded when outcomes do not align with expectations that were never communicated. There is no consistent system for approvals, deadlines, or accountability. Work is often completed, revised, and revised again due to last-minute changes or leadership oversight. When issues arise, responsibility is rarely taken at the management level. Instead, blame is shifted downward, creating a culture where employees feel anxious, hypervigilant, and afraid to make even reasonable decisions. Feedback is not constructive or timely. It is reactive, emotional, and often delivered publicly or in a confrontational tone. Employees are not coached or supported to improve. They are criticized after the fact. Over time, this erodes confidence and morale and leads to emotional exhaustion. Despite being a media and marketing company, there is little operational structure. Processes are undocumented or change without notice. Employees are expected to “just know” how things should be done, even when rules differ week to week. Asking clarifying questions is not encouraged and can be met with frustration or hostility. If you value mental health, psychological safety, professional growth, or basic respect, this environment will be deeply challenging. Turnover is not surprising in a culture where fear replaces leadership and chaos replaces process.
