A Beautiful Disaster

Pros

My coworkers were great people, and I am friends with several to this day. They made the work days easier to get through. Like a group of prisoner's suffering from Stockholm Syndrome or a pack of hikers lost in the Himalayas, you forge a rewarding bond with these people until that sweet, warm release finally creeps over your fingers and toes and you die or are fired.

Cons

There are a lot of little things, but it all comes back to sentient spray tan and Keebler Elf that run this company. They are so focused on hocking branded products on air and mass producing fear-inducing tech content for their audience, that they have no patience for ethical business practices or creating authentic, factual content. Members of the editorial staff, myself included, had to regularly stand up to management and refuse to plagiarize other sites, make factually inaccurate statements in articles or blogs, and refuse to write sponsored posts masquerading as editorial content.

You lost us on the phrase, "neo-con fan fiction." Nevertheless, WestStar has a zero-tolerance policy regarding plagiarism. In fact, all writers must sign and adhere to our anti-plagiarism policy as a term of employment. Should an employee knowingly and willfully violate the company's anti-plagiarism policy, that employee would be immediately terminated. From time to time, our anti-plagiarism policy is reviewed with our staff. WestStar adheres to the highest ethical standards in both its business practices and its content publishing and expects its employees to do the same. We are sorry that your time with us was unproductive. Nevertheless, these kinds of personal attacks speak volumes about the writer.

Pros

Great employees, no overtime, decent 401K package

Cons

Management is toxic, very high turnover rate, they watch your online history and clock in/out history like a hawk (even if you're an exempt employee), no room for growth

WestStar does, in fact, pay overtime wages when a team member is required to work over time. However, we strive to insure that everyone can get their work done in an 8 hour day so that no extra work is necessary, and therefore not over-burden our staff. Our team is growing in size every week and our "turnover rate" (as you call it) is actually quite low - lower than similar media businesses. WestStar also encourages current team members to apply for other positions within the company, so growth is encouraged for those who want to achieve. While WestStar respects opinions, it does not condone the publishing of these repeated factually false postings

Upper Management: Please take this to heart

Pros

The co-workers are top-notch. Upper Management/the owners know how to hire great people (they just don’t know how to keep them).

Cons

- Turnover is very high (over 100 people in 7 years for a 30-person company… That’s nearly 50% per year) - Feedback to management is not valued - No vacation [was] offered in the 1st year - Management does not know how to create a viable business plan, plan ahead and stick to that plan - Management does not know how to prioritize - Management does not keep promises - Managements “Open-Door” policy depends on their mood that day

WestStar does not and have never asked staff to post positive reviews about our company on this or any other website. This entire posting is vitriolic and misleading. To set the record straight: The quote, "No vacation [was] offered in the 1st year," is factually incorrect. Vacation time begins accruing during the first day of employment and most first year employees take vacation time during their first year with us. WestStar's vacation policy has not changed since 2008. The quote, " Management does not know how to create a viable business plan, plan ahead and stick to that plan," is obviously incorrect. WestStar has experienced consistent growth for over 20 years. The "turnover rate" numbers quoted by this individual are factually incorrect. WestStar's "turnover" rate is lower that the largest broadcasting and media based companies. A number of our employees have been with WestStar for more than five years. We especially draw attention to the above quote: "Since you haven’t been able to keep a steady staff, you have recently opted to have an I.T. employee write articles for Kim’s newsletters. I feel for the person that has to do this because when they fail, your “go-to” behavior has been to fire them." It is WestStar's policy to promote from within and provide new employment opportunities to current employees. The former I. T. employee who is referenced in this misinformed and false post, actually applied to be promoted and transferred from our I. T. staff to WestStar's writing/editorial staff. More clearly stated, the employee asked for and received a permanent promotion and a raise in pay and is no longer with WestStar's I. T. department. Therefore, the statements that this individual has made regarding the employee and WestStar are false and shameful. Finally, the comments posted by this individual regarding the broadcasting of asking "a pastor or priests" for advice on "keeping a staff" are not only false but quite frankly, they are nothing less than bizarre. While WestStar respects opinions, we find this posting to be especially egregious, false and misleading. We do not condone the publishing of factually false and misleading information.
