Pros
Fantastic discounts on premium seafood, remote-first work environment, pleasant billing department to work with as a freelancer. Additionally, Wild Alaskan is a fantastic brand with an immensely important mission of bringing the highest quality seafood straight to your door. It was truly inspiring to be a part of that mission, especially in a world where most of our food is synthetic garbage.
Cons
The problem with the company in my opinion lies with the decisions and behavior of management (in the creative department), which in my observation acts in a machiavellian fashion — by being extremely snipey, overly critical, and constantly changing project requirements.
Think ever-shifting deadlines, last-minute fire drills, initial approvals of copy that are then retracted, and being subjected to intense scrutiny. Additionally, there were times I'd be assigned something then submit it to the department head, only for them to ghost me entirely.
Meeting expectations for creative standards was seemingly impossible. Harsh feedback was neither constructive, nor provided an actual roadmap to improving. It was simply vibes-based and really depended on the fleeting emotions of said department lead.
