Pros

Wonderist has achieved something rare: maintaining startup culture and innovation while building the structure and processes of a mature agency. Well-documented operating procedures and strategic hiring planning mean you get the best of both worlds - freedom to move fast with the preparation to avoid chaos. Leadership actually understands AI. We're not replacing people or chasing trends. We're using AI tools to augment what our creative teams do best. ChatGPT is great, but Wonderist uses AI in completely different ways that make me feel like I'm extremely far ahead of most in terms of utilizing the technology daily in new and exciting ways. If you want to carve your own path, this is the place. New roles emerge frequently (based on need) meaning if you perform at a high level, there will be opportunity for you. You're trusted to own your work and try new approaches. The founders understand that people power this business. They don't just say it, they prove it all the time. Our Culture Manager regularly surveys the team, and leadership actually implements changes based on that feedback. You're measured on outcomes, not hours logged or busy work. If you care about producing quality work for clients and driving real results, you'll thrive here.

Cons

The autonomy is real, which means you need to be comfortable figuring things out independently. If you need constant direction or struggle with shifting priorities, this probably isn't your fit. The pace requires adaptability. This isn't a place to coast. You don't need to want constant promotion, but you do need to consistently deliver quality work and care about your clients. Average isn't the standard here.

Pros

After working at a larger ecomm focused agency, I feel like Wonderist's expectations of employees are fair. In comparison to previous roles, I am not expected to be responding to people after 5, or be online. I think the team has a good head on it's shoulders. I've had the ability to have my hand in a variety of new initiatives, despite being fresh to the company, which is in line with some of my career aspirations which I appreciate. The culture has been the biggest shift for me, I am not expected to be at every event, and it's not a penalty against me if I can't make it, but most times events are held in office at the later half of the day, which make it enticing to hang out for a few hours. It's probably the strongest company culture I've worked at in my career. If you're in the SD Area two days a week is minimum, but it's honestly been a big help after being home for most of the week, and it's much easier to collaborate.

Cons

Sometimes bandwidth management definitely slips through the cracks. I do feel as though there could be more hiring for strategist that do the actual work to help mitigate having such a large client load. Sometimes there does feel like a misalignment with the amount of management of accounts vs. the actual work due to such a small number of specialists. There definitely some growing pains in terms of SOPs and getting new products or processes up and rolling, but to be expected with a smaller agency.
