Real Cons to Take into Consideration

Pros

The members of the organization are fantastic. The mission of the society is one to support. Several worker line staff are truly good at what they do, and care about their reputation and that of the society.

Cons

Senior “leadership” is lacking. Potentially 50% of the Senior leadership team (SLT) are leaders, and 50% think they are leaders but simply are not. A few SLT members are truly harmful to the organization. There appears to be a thought that fancy welcome gifts, and words about developing staff suffice in the absence of real support and leadership. Actions are more important than talk and talking is very popular at the Society. Turnover is high and was high before COVID changed the work place and may have gotten worse during COVID. At one point, 40-50% of the staff had less than 4 years experience. The number of staff with 6+ years of experience is shockingly low.

Pros

Great team dynamics at director level and below, great benefits, good flexibility , passionate people work here. People care a lot about what they do and teammates support each other to ensure their goals are met. I made many lifelong friends at Endocrine Society.

Cons

Endocrine Society doesn't value their lower level employees which is reflected in the broken talent management, pay, and promotion system at Endocrine Society. It is also reflected in their attrition numbers with 30% of the staff resigning each year. As such, I would not recommend Endocrine Society for high performers. The bonus scale is flat, pay is below market value, and promotion is based on years of service, not on job performance. If you are a high performer, do not work here, you will not be happy with your ability for career growth and promotion.

A Decent Place to Work

Pros

The Endocrine Society is a good place to work if you are new to the workforce or want to gain association experience. Staff and members truly care about advancing the company’s mission. The benefits are great and they did a good job of transitioning staff to a virtual environment over the past year.

Cons

I'm giving the Endocrine Society a three-star rating because the opportunities for growth are inconsistent. Opportunities for professional development, promotions, and career growth seem to vary based on your department and role. Also, the senior leadership team lacks diversity.
