Pros

Lots of friendly staff, nice office in good City location, self directed work, wasn’t micro managed. Good opportunities to develop project management skills with excellent support from a dedicated project monitoring member of staff

Cons

Huge distrust of staff with to-the-minute clockwatching. Quite a secretive culture amongst senior management and felt patronised several times. Funded by Shell and BAE systems. Zero acknowledgement of barriers to certain groups progressing within engineering sector such as adequate parental leave/carers leave and pay. Also v little emphasis on soft skills needed for engineering careers. I did leave a good while ago though so these things could of course changed.

Pros

Really inspiring leaders (many of whom have left) Great colleagues, friendly and committed Enthusiastic about EDI Good pay Beautiful location Fantastic schools and students

Cons

Lots of people I worked with and admired have left. Some were senior leaders. I felt there was not much more for me to learn from. So many people leaving also left many staff unsettled and mistrusting Engineering UK. I think addressing why so many people are leaving (some without any notice) is important. Being a small charity there isn't much room for progression and many funding streams are reducing so staff who are more junior struggle to be promoted and have opportunities to grow.
