The manager/owner is incredibly disrespectful to staff. Nothing you are told during the interview about hours/pay turns out to be true, the contract is extremely dodgy and technically you are not even a "teacher" and are in a "trial period" for the entire year and so can be sacked whenever he wants.
No care for student welfare. There is massive turnover in staff and nobody is asked to have any experience nor are they background-checked. This means that classrooms full of five-year-olds end up being supervised by someone who stepped off a plane the day before, has zero teaching experience, has had no DBS checks, and who likely can't speak a word of Spanish. Kids will just be swapped between classrooms at whim without staff being given any information about health issues, allergies, special educational needs or (on occasions) even being told the child's name.
The materials are beyond a joke. They are all typed out by the manager and literally need to be seen to be believed. It's embarrassing to have to hand these "books" to students - they are absolutely full of mistakes in both English and Spanish and have blatantly not even been spell-checked. The kids books are also full of errors and no effort has been made to make the kids' books age-appropriate so all the activities are either far too difficult or too easy. Among the various excuses given for the state of the materials (any criticism/concerns of any kid is always brushed away with excuses) was that "I copied and pasted some of these exercises from the internet so it's not my fault they're incorrect" - as if plagiarism absolves him of responsibility.
