Pros

Fantastic people. Great salaries and benefits. Noble mission and good values. Also probably The best people ops team I've ever worked with.

Cons

Can't seem to shake overwork/burnout culture in R&D dept. Team members brought up their overwork at almost every all hands meeting. Management tried to remedy it with "free days off" but not to much success when people still had to work on these days. Difficult to work with contract manufacturer. New CEO leaves a bad taste in the mouth. He belittled the work of the software engineers in our first R&D all-hands. Let us know immediately when introducing himself to the company that doing something wrong was the quickest way to get fired working for him. Is seemingly obsessed with Elon Musk and SpaceX and Amazon and using their principles at Evolv, an immediate red flag for me. Following suit with trending RTO mandates and requiring people 75 miles away to drive 3 hours in traffic one way to come to work 3 days a week when their job was done just fine at home. Because he flies in from Chicago every week on the company dime to be in the office for 3 days. Aimed to reduce discretionary spend to reach profitability and claimed they weren't going to touch "people spend" aka payroll. Proceeded to lay off 40 of us a few weeks later. In a way I am glad he laid me off. I think I would have hated working for him and been on my way out as soon as I could.

Pros

Work with great people with the same drive to complete a great mission. Good benefits and work life balance.

Cons

After multiple FTC and SEC investigations, leadership was scrapped and a new CEO came in, He decided to layoff 40 people that pushed through these investigations and stayed with the company during these tough times in order to save costs yet gladly takes a $540k base, 100% bonus, over 1 million shares of stock and a monthly stipend for air travel, hotel, etc from his home in another state to HQ every week in Waltham. The company has shifted to prioritizing maximizing shareholder returns from taking care of thier employees. They claim to be customer obsessed yet have taken away multiple resources for customers to feel supported and succeed.

Leadership train wreck

Pros

The mission of keeping guns out of schools Finally fixing some infrastructure and process problems

Cons

New CEO does not care about employees or people in general. Zero empathy skills. Wastes precious cash (we are not profitable as he likes to remind us) commuting from his home state. Treats R&D team like children. Messed up yet another product launch. New products cut and innovation is non-existant for this year. The one exec making good changes was let go and others act paralyzed. Employees are burnt-out zombies waiting for the next critis and the culture is dead
