Pros

Staff discount. You become a stronger person working in retail.

Cons

Being expected to do overtime and not getting paid, higher management such as state leaders and nationals, and very political, they manipulate you into thinking any opportunity is a good one. Rostering is a huge one, you have no support with VERY minimal hours, you either have to be crying or on the edge of a mental breakdown to be given more hours only to be told you HAVE to make more money. You’re never aloud to change your rostering times as a manager. If you’re sick, good luck finding a cover they work ever casual to the bone, set unrealistic expectations for casuals and store managers. Bully them when they don’t hit deadlines. If you drink all your water on shift good luck finding a tap to refill!! All Factorie stores do not have taps, or fridges out back, but if you’re lucky your store might have a microwave!! You are told to go to the centre bathrooms to go refill your bottle of water or spend $3 for 400ml of water! Have you ever thought to yourself “hmm this store seems messy, dusty and understaffed” well that’s because they are! Most Factorie stores are 10+ years old and only get 15mins before opening to vacuum, mop, tills, accept stock. So how do we do all that? We get told “you can’t leave until it’s done” OR the parents room has hot water to mop the floor! The cotton in group loves to boast on how much they do for their people, head office people that is, if you make your way there you’ll love your job! But as for in store good luck. You may get 60+ boxes of stock delivered to you and it’ll be you from open to close with a little lunch cover.

Pros

- Good progression opportunities if you are willing to work hard. - Great discount and a fun, casual environment. - Some really fun events and a lot of the training tools are amazing, really world class. - Lots of fun people and you get to meet and have great conversations with head office team members, allowing you to network and grow your brand. Even the senior managers are very approachable and friendly. - Solid systems, policies and procedures shared with Cotton On Group which are easy to use and of a generally high standard.

Cons

- It is a real volume retailer and you need to work very hard to get results and to be successful. You’ll always start early and finish late if you’re to get your work done to an acceptable standard. - Regularly changing priorities. Lots of “you must get this major change done within 2 hours with no notice and no extra resources”. - You are treated very junior, even as a middle manager. Very limited access to financial information or the tools you need to drive your business. This is slowly improving but still far from ideal. - No bonuses and only one incentive program every year (only 3 prizes up for grabs for 30+ Area Managers with challenging targets). No Christmas party either. - Scheduling is not “Work life balance” friendly. It’s very strictly controlled, even when it’s detrimental to the business’ operations. - Things are often so fast moving that they forget anything long term, including your development. $$$ are always tight so there’s no budget to grow people.

Pros

Discount for purchases across the cotton:on brand

Cons

Too much of a push for KPI's. Expected to give a whole spiel to every single customer you interact with at pos.
