I have been working at Farmers Insurance Group full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

I've been at Farmers for more than a decade. The changes inside the company during that time have been astounding . I really feel our leadership understands what they need to do to attract and keep talent in this rapidly changing marketplace. They've relaxed the dress code, improved technology, reworked benefits and really focused on diversity and inclusion efforts at all levels of the company. I've never really felt the desire to leave (which I had at both previous employers). Things I like:
    - I'm extremely challenged in my role.
    - I feel my talents are being used to the fullest extent.
    - I feel valued.
    - I got a lot of time off (I actually struggle to use the 30 days I receive each year).
    - I get to work at home a lot.
    - I'm given a lot of autonomy in my role.
    - I'm given opportunity.
    - I get to support my community and my favorite charities on behalf of Farmers.
    - I feel fairly compensated.

    Cons

    - Work/life balance can be a little off. Sometimes I ask, "what balance?"
    - Benefits are decent. Probably could be better. My litmus test is that I perceive my husband's employer-provided benefits better than what I receive.
    - Offices outside of Home Office (Los Angeles) have less opportunity than Home Office, especially in my business unit.

    Advice to Management

Keep working to transform the company for the better.

I worked at Farmers Insurance Group full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The company is really incredible to work for. They take in to consideration work-home balance, allow certain employees to work from home (depending on your performance on the job) and incorporate random little fun events/days in to the workplace. They care about your well-being, the culture is really great and the supervisors are some of the best people you will work for.

    Cons

The job itself is really draining. Once you get on full rotation, it is constant work. Phone calls, estimates, reviews, contractors. You barely get time to breathe. Customers and contractors can be some of the rudest people, but you just have to ignore it sometimes. To get through, you have to leave work at the door.

    Advice to Management

Keep it up, but make sure that issues are addressed immediately when something is wrong.

    Cons

Confusing Computer Systems. Help Point is not very helpful. Premiums are too high, makes for a hard sale.

    Advice to Management

Include employees in special bonus promos

I have been working at Farmers Insurance Group full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Large stable company with good marketing.

    Cons

They keep raising rates, cutting commissions, and changing bonus. Cut commissions, so to make a living you need to bonus. Bonus is icing on the cake; not the cake!

    Advice to Management

You want to incentivize to grow larger agencies, but you are killing the hopes of agents in smaller markets by cutting the commissions and wanting premium growth to hit hit bonuses. More premium is good, but in markets where premium is cheap, you need twice as much just to bonus and your commissions have already been cut. Just digging deeper holes here and losing agents.

I have been working at Farmers Insurance Group full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

A large stable company with more opportunity inside the company vs external sales outside the company.

    Cons

Upper management makes decisions without experience or real knowledge of the consumer in rural markets

    Advice to Management

Understand more about the smaller markets and double your profitability without having to keep taking rate in attempts to be more competitive in the metro markets.

    Pros

Flexible schedule, great coworkers, convenient locations

    Cons

Unclear standards, weird restrictions, moody agent

    Advice to Management

Make a clearer picture of what it takes to qualify for farmers. If someone doesn't make the grade then offer monitored protection for an extra fee.
