Pros

There are some amazing and talented people working there. Projects can be interesting. You can work with high-tech microscopes. Convinient location

Cons

The CEO (Balázs Rózsa) embodies everything that is wrong with the company. He is a narcissistic, egoistic person who tries to micromanage everything and be smarter than everyone. This makes working and progressing with you projects unnecessarily difficult. His "revolutions" and "breakthroughs" that he likes to talk a lot (and I mean A LOT) are usually empty thoughts that are based on far-fetched, wannabe ideas and single observations. His work is absolutely unscientific and solely about how to shape data the scientists acquired and not confirming his heuristics into something that "does". And it's the scientists fault if it's not possible. 40+ hours of work is required in shifts, even on the weekend. Naturally, salary doesn't reflect these requirements. Criticism is not accepted as the CEO knows everything better. Public humiliation from him is regular. Most of the time he puts everyone on emails, even if he replies to a private mail. I don't recommend doing a PhD here because Balázs Rózsa insists on publishing only to high impact journals. Since the quality of work is not enough for that (and not because of the people working there), this means that they never publish.

Pros

- Convenient location in the city centre, close to a metro station. Incovenient if you plan by driving to work though because only the management has parking spaces. - Many smart people. Too bad they cannot manage or stand up for themselves. - I personally received extra, unexpected money a couple of times but this is hardly general within the company. - One of the products truly represents added value to researchers. It is very expensive though and only few researchers have the money to buy it in basic research (so no direct contribution to human research).

Cons

- Autocracy. Criticism is not tolerated. This goes to the extent that there had been examples of management saying behind people's backs after they left that they actually fired them, and the CEO has threatened to and in another case, actually did call someone's future boss to negate the person who just quit. - Micro- and mismanagement. On the other hand this autocratic CEO is involved in e.v.e.r.y. decision and despite the fact that the engineers and mid-level managers have sensible ideas, he will make a contradictory final decision. In several cases even mid-managers are not fit for management roles as they are technical experts instead. You are also expected to do other people's jobs on a regular basis because boundaries are not managed. - Mistrust. Although the company is small (120 people), there is an access control system at the doors which actually serves to log your time in the office and you have to check out for toilet time or lunch time on the 2nd floor (but not on the 3rd floor). But I realized this system is actually to protect the employees from what was in the early years of the company where overtime was expected but not paid for. Anyways, if you go to the toilet 4 times a day, that is 20 min more you have to spend at this wonderful place... - Unsuccessful. The company is more than 15 years old but is still not profitable if you look at organic sales. - Poor customer service. Slow, untrue and ungenerous responses. - No trainings. You are expected to learn optical, applicational, mechanical, IT and electronical details on your own.

Pros

You can learn how you should not establish business strategies and people management. There are no consequences.

Cons

There are many lies.Leadership is narcissistic. The leadership style is post-socialist, they manicly check the working hours, because they do not trust their employees. The overtime is expected, but they do not pay for it. Even late at night on weekends your boss will contact you "little things."If they do not reach you via email they will call you,if they do not reach you via business phone they will call you on your private phone. The leadership style is dictatorial, the communication style within the company is horrible. The buyer's interest is the last, the goal is to sell the semi-finished product at all hazards. They don't train you, you have to take care of it yourself.
