Pros

They will tell you that you can set your own hours, but give you clients who can only meet at odd hours and tell you that you must meet with them every week. Can be 6 AM or 7 PM. Pleasant office. Hours are flexible, be you may have a three hours gap in your schedule.

Cons

The Faribault office offered no support. The supervisors were tempermental and did not communicate well. Whenever asked questions, the supervisors offer rude responses and were too busy to bother with employees. Employees would give information that was trained differently in the main Owatonna office. Employees who had children on their caseload would often blame the parents even when the children had mental health problems.

Pros

EXTREME flexibility. You can work whenever you want to: weekends holidays, evenings, start at noon, take off a Tuesday, etc.

Cons

Absolutely no acknowledgment that the standard American workweek is only 40 hours. Functionally impossible to work less that 50-60 hours per week.

Pros

….a nice resume builder if you stay long enough..

Cons

Long story short: I do not know how they are in business. Agencies like Fernbrook are the reason that social workers leave the field, and why clients lose trust in the mental health system. There is no support from management, despite them touting this in training. A worker at Fernbrook can’t even afford their health insurance, and will absolutely struggle to pay their bills unless they have a partner who makes an actual living wage. It’s astounding that this agency is able to stay afloat.
