Cons
As an RBT, I felt the environment did not provide adequate training or support. On my first day, I received a brief tour and was then placed with a child without sufficient ongoing guidance. When questions or concerns came up, the responsibility was placed entirely on staff rather than management providing support or instruction. There was little structure or consistency in daily schedules for the children, and much of the work felt more like daycare supervision than evidence-based ABA therapy. This was very discouraging as someone who wanted to gain meaningful experience in the field. I was also concerned about health and safety practices. On one occasion, a child with a contagious condition was present, and I personally did not feel that the response or communication around sanitation and exposure was handled appropriately. Employees receive no PTO or sick days, yet if staff become ill, responsibility is placed on them. While 40 hours are guaranteed, staff may be reassigned to different children frequently to meet that requirement, which made it difficult to provide consistent care. Overall, this workplace negatively impacted my experience as an RBT. I left feeling that both staff and children deserved better support, training, and transparency.
