Pros

Cons

It's almost comical how many tropes Flash Battles ticks off in the already-exploitative world of esports. It's like the CEO watched "The Wolf of Wall Street" a few dozen times and decided to start a sweatshop. He's literally tried to feed the line about the "American Dream" to everyone in the office in one of his lame "motivational" speeches saying that people would kill to work there and that there are "hundreds of people begging to take your jobs!" while winking away like a shrunken Great Value James Franco. The sheer volume of people "begging" is created by the culture at Flash Battles/Esports Global Company, which has produced a revolving door of employees who you might see one day and then never again, as they ghost and pursue opportunities that aren't being paid $12/hr to be abused by your clientele, coworkers, and bosses. Working at Flash, you will regularly be singled out over Discord for indiscretions that change day-to-day, as there are no set guidelines and what you are doing wrong will vary by whoever is the lead or manager on at that time. Even though management works very long hours, they can't set aside the half hour it would take to outline what exactly it is they want in the few situations that workers encounter in the job. There will be many times where a player calls out inconsistencies and you will have to lie your way through it. You aren't able to get a hold of them 80% of the time, but they will blame you for a lack of communication in front of both offices. The kicker is that the "chance to travel to big events across the globe" is just management being shipped from one side of the country, from the other company Esports Global Company owns, to the other so that they can breathe down your neck. They get to travel just to work the same long hours and demean you with slurs. By and large, the name of the game here is anxiety and false promises. The initial ad stated that you would be paid $14-16/hr, which is alright, but got switched out for $12-$16 soon after. You will be encouraged not to discuss any raises with your coworkers, lest they start coveting them too, especially if they'd like to regularly eat. You know you're on your way up when they start asking you to rat them out for saying things like "I'd just like one full weekend off in the next three months." or "I'm applying to other places because I'm losing money working here." They don't need you to rat anyone out, as the cameras record audio, which the CEO will pull you aside to threaten you about, telling you where "the door is." The CEO only cares so far as to know about you to know when to start looking for a replacement. You will regularly wonder if you're going to be fired even though they can't afford to lose any further experienced employees. Your responsibility will continue to go up without commensurate raises, which they've only recently provided to rope along those who haven't yet found something else. If you're looking to work outside your job description for labor that would otherwise let you live comfortably, Flash Battles is the place because they want to skimp on hiring as much as they can while lining their own pockets. You will be reminded that they are "Smashing numbers and taking names!" in meetings that are, as the promises, empty of anything meaningful and that you should be unsure that you're actually being paid for. You'll be reminded that they're trying to court players like Ninja and events like Friday Fortnite, but in the spirit of the American Dream you will never see any of that money go to your paycheck. You don't get paystubs, so you can't verify if the holiday pay you're promised actually happened or the bonus they said you'd get was actually paid out. The only way to make more money reliably is to work overtime, which they're happy to give you--even if you asked for a day off two months in advance and promised it, they will still try to get you to come in right before a shift starts. The tragedy is that they could have a great team if they weren't so cheap and incompetent with management. Everyone at Esports Global Company knows nothing about esports other than that people are passionate about it, which they're all too willing to take advantage of, even telling their employees that they "should be willing to work for less." They can't tell TSM from BDSM or EG from the Bee Gees. Their lack of knowledge regularly ends up burning them on their own business deals, even if they're told in advance if a big streamer is on the site. The CEO has such a need to protect his fragile ego that he would rather retaliate than take a moment to think something through, which is evident by the many phone calls he shouts and screams the entire way through just to look "strong" for a moment. This review does not even scratch a tenth of the unethical and otherwise sketchy business practices that Esports Global Company tries to pull, and any reviews higher than one star should be taken with a boulder-sized grain of salt. TL;DR: they will keep doing what they're doing, but don't let it happen to you.
